Is it possible to live a healthy lifestyle and truly take care of yourself while taking care of little ones?

In honor of Mother’s Day, that’s right around the corner, I wanted to offer a few tips and tricks that I’ve learned along the way.

First, a little about me…12 years ago I met my best friend and love of my life. Shortly after we got together we adopted a healthy active lifestyle that has been very enlightening for both of us, to say the least. We now have 2 boys, ages 6 and 4 years old. I am a Registered Nurse and am the operating owner of BFF Cafe. There is never a dull moment around the Boscovich household.

Health is a priority for my husband and I as a family unit. We believe that establishing healthy habits early, is extremely important. It avoids the struggle of breaking bad habits later in life. The first tip is finding a physical activity that the entire family can participate in. For us that’s just about anything on the mountain. Biking and hiking in the warmer months, skiing and sledding in the colder months. This has been the ticket for us to be active and keep us together as a family unit. With all the stress of work, school, sports, and crazy schedules this is the best tip I can offer to any family.

The second but not any less important tip is taking a few minutes for yourself. I’ve been told this for many years. It was not until I opened the cafe that I really started implementing this rule for myself. Whether your thing is a little gym time, a bubble bath or meditation (which has been my go to lately) it is critical to schedule this time in for yourself. Make its importance equivalent to an important meeting at work. I consider these 20 minutes every day absolutely necessary to my survival as a mother. I’m not exaggerating, this “me-time” has been a huge game changer in helping me find balance in my life.

The third life saving tip as a busy mom is to make the investment in prepared healthy food to go. Now before you say ok here comes the sales pitch, hang in there with me. Of course I’d love to see you all buy Fuelpacks. Even my boys love them… However even if Fuelpacks are not your thing, look into prepared meals to go from a company you trust. It saves so much time!! Which as a parent you know is priceless. I used to spend 4-5 hours every Sunday meal prepping for the week. I was even that crazy mom who made all of our own baby food. (I know, right?!) It was important to us to have organic food that we could trust. In a weird way, opening the cafe has given me back so many hours that are better spent riding bikes, having water balloon fights, reading stories and wiping noses. Priceless… So to all of you who are a mom or have a mom in your life, I hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day.
